Lilytor (/ˈlɪli/ /tɔː/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large City located in Beachwind Dutchy, Baldockia Margrave, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Lilytor is derived from the Sylvin language, as Lilytor was founded by Èdonm Dowden, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Lilytor has a yearly average temperature of 15°C (59°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 24°C (75°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 6°C (42°F). Lilytor receives an average of 136 cm/y (53 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Lilytor covers an area of nearly 268 km2 (107 mi2), and an average elevation of 5798 m (19022 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Lilytor was founded durring the early 14th century in winter of the year 1307, by Èdonm Dowden. The establishment of Lilytor was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Èdonm Dowden struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Lilytor as a prison colony.

Lilytor was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Lilytor is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Lilytor is is constructed arround a series of narrow cobblestone mainstreets which form overlapping circles, with smaller strait roads linking the circiles to eachother at varrious points. The city is defended by arcane means. It's hard to spot at first, but there's a tell tell shimmer in the air arround Lilytor, and you can spot the ocasional warding glyph carved into a rock or tree all arround town. These mystical defences are ancient, unknowable, and unassailable by current means... Assuming everything is in working order. Otherwise, the wards are little more than a deathtrap. The Relic of the World That Was have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

A look around Lilytor has something terribly wrong with it. It’s impossible to put one’s finger on, but something is horribly wrong. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scuttling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Maybe it’s all of those things together, or perhaps it's the way these elements combine with the simple fact that it is abundantly clear Lilytor suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had. Everyone quietly goes about their daily business not looking anyone in the eye. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Lilytor long.

Civic Infrastructure

Lilytor has a library, which keeps a large collection of books, scrolls, and archives all manner of physical items. While not open to the public, the librarians and scholars employed by the library will assist anyone with their research needs, and wealthy individuals can purchase membership to access the library's materials themselves. In spite of being generally closed to the public, the library has a room with several Aether Linked devices available to the public during business hours.

Lilytor has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Lilytor's natural decorations nor waterways.

Lilytor has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Lilytor has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Lilytor has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Lilytor is home to a University which provides higher education in a variety of fields, and also serves as a research institute for those same fields.

Cultural Notes

Lilytor's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used which employed abundant symbolic geometry, using pure forms such as the circle and square, and plans are based on often symmetrical layouts featuring rectangular courtyards and halls. These structures were is decorated with carved stone or stucco reliefs and made use of colorful stone mosaics..

In Lilytor hail is always enormous, yet harmlessly plinks off people, creatures, and structures.

The Human Juju Zombie near Lilytor are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Lilytor's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves performance art to channel Conjuration energies of tier 3 via guttural bellowing.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Lilytor was attacked by savage ogress living nearby. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Lilytor lost 222 people, 324 livestock, and 21 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 222, when members of Lilytor's militia enacted an operation to scout a specific location for information about a particular bridge. The operation was complicated by the enemy forces had far more numbers than estimated. The conflict ended with the defense of the bridge against a siege, which ended in a stalemate for Lilytor's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Lilytor's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
